As it has been reported, this week Baja California may witness different weather phenomena. Among them a possible snowfall due to the combination of a cold front and a winter storm that will affect Southern California, indicated Salvador Cervantes, State Coordinator of Civil Protection of Baja California.

Snowfall is expected with greater probability for this Wednesday and Thursday, in Sierra de Juarez and Sierra de San Pedro Martir, as well as in La Rumorosa, he said.

Due to the fact that this condition could cause crystallization of the asphalt, in addition to the fall of snow, Cervantes warned about a possible closure of road sections or some restrictions in the circulation of highways, especially on the Tijuana-Mexicali highway, so he asked the population to take their precautions and avoid non-essential trips after the weekend.

"On the other hand, it is very important to ask you that in case of snowfall, which is very attractive at the tourist level, that you do not approach these areas until the probability of continued snowfall is reduced, since as we have seen on previous occasions, a large part of the Sedan vehicles or those that are not suitable for these conditions can be stranded, even in the stretches that are dirt roads we have had problems with larger vehicles. Therefore, we ask that despite these conditions, please do not schedule trips to these areas and if possible, if it is not necessary to leave home, please stay there, since runoff in urban areas could also occur," he said.

Finally, he added that the temporary shelter in La Rumorosa is also being prepared, which they hope not to need, but in the face of the possible snowfall everything has already been coordinated with the Civil Protection of Tecate.
