Two new COVID-19 vaccination centers are opening in San Diego as a targeted measure for those groups most affected by the coronavirus pandemic. Viejas Arena at San Diego State University and the Mexican Consulate in San Diego will begin administering the vaccines.

Viejas Arena at San Diego State University, located at 5500 Canyon Crest Dr., announced that it will administer approximately 750 doses daily. However, according to the San Diego County Communications Office, this could increase to 1,500 per day as more doses become available in the region.

On the other hand, the courtyard of the Mexican Consulate located at 1540 India St. in Little Italy will also become a vaccination site and will be available from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.

This clinic will have the capacity to administer up to 100 appointments per day. According to the Office of Communications, "As part of Project SAVE (Scheduling Assistance for Vaccine Equity), these clinics are taking steps to ensure equitable distribution of the new coronavirus vaccine, including offering reserved appointments."

So far, San Diego has 18.7% of its residents under the age of 16 immunized and a total of 811 thousand residents have received at least one of the two coronavirus vaccines and have now gone 3 days without a coronavirus death.
