The U.S. Consulate General in Tijuana, sent a message to Americans interested in traveling to Baja California, through a video.

Consul Sue Sarnio, reminded her fellow citizens that in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, this is not the time for non-essential travel, to this or any part of Mexico.

However, in case your visit is of utmost importance, together with her team, they shared some recommendations to make during your stay in Baja California.

1. If traveling by plane to Mexico, submit a negative test for COVID-19 prior to your return to the United States.
2. Have medical insurance while abroad.
3. In case of a medical emergency or if you are a victim of a crime, call 911.
4. Check your car before crossing the border, as it is illegal to enter Mexico with a firearm, ammunition or drugs (including medical marijuana).
5. If you drive into Mexico, make sure you have Mexican car insurance, as you could be arrested in case of an accident.
6. Log on to step.state.gov to register, stay informed and be reached in case of an emergency.

"Stay safe and avoid any travel that is not essential at this time," said the Consul in Tijuana.
