Third wave of COVID-19 could reach Baja California by the end of April

The State already has 45 thousand confirmed cases and 7 thousand 755 deaths due to COVID-19

Despite the fact that Baja California remains in yellow traffic light for COVID-19 until Sunday, the trends in the different indicators seem to be on the rise.

In the last 24 hours the entity added 101 new cases, of which 64 were registered in San Quintin, 14 in Mexicali, 12 in Tijuana and 11 in Ensenada. Nine more deaths due to coronavirus were reported, six of them in Tijuana, two in Mexicali and one in Ensenada.

With this, the region accumulates 45 thousand confirmed cases and 7 thousand 755 unfortunate deaths due to this disease, so far in the pandemic.

Active cases amounted to 281, 126 of them located in Mexicali, 96 in Tijuana, 33 in Ensenada, ten in Rosarito, 11 in San Quintin and five in Tecate.

On this point, the Secretary of Health, Alonso Perez Rico, commented that the agglomerations and the relaxation of measures observed in Spring break "will pay off" within the next eight to ten days.

He also mentioned that "we ourselves can cause the third wave" of COVID-19 in Baja California, due to this type of actions.

On the other hand, hospital occupancy continues to increase gradually in the last few days, however it went from 8.5% to 15.3% in the State as of yesterday and 68 patients hospitalized and 33 more intubated.

How fast is the virus reproducing? According to the Effective Reproduction Rate (ER) which is 1.23, one person with COVID-19 in the entity can infect two more.

"We don't have to gather, not right now, this is not the time. Before the end of this month, the projection is, we are going to have the third wave here in our land", he mentioned.

Finally, Perez Rico assured that statistically it is a certainty that the third wave will be bigger than the second one.
