Trends for COVID-19 continue to rise in Baja California, as shown by indicators such as the Effective Reproduction Rate (ER) and hospital occupancy.

Today, one person confirmed with this disease can infect two more people in the State, after registering an ER of 1.20. However, the larger municipalities of Mexicali, Tijuana and Ensenada continue to worry the authorities, since they report an ER of 1.38, 1.28 and 1.02, respectively.

According to the head of the Secretariat of Health, Alonso Perez Rico, the speed at which the virus is reproducing "is a consequence of what is to come. What I mean by that, when it is above one, we are going to have more active cases, hospitalizations, we are going to have more patients on ventilators and we are going to have patients who continue to lose the battle."

Meanwhile, hospital occupancy went from 15.31% to 15.55% yesterday. The hospital has 62 coronavirus confirmed hospitalized patients and 33 more intubated.

And despite the fact that there are 653 beds available and 227 ventilators to continue dealing with the pandemic in the entity, the Secretary of Health, stated the following:

"Yes, we have ventilators for everyone, but the fact that you have a ventilator does not mean that you are going to win the battle. The ventilator only buys you time for your body to reduce inflammation on its own. There are older adults, people with comorbidities who don't have that opportunity, who cannot reduce inflammation fast enough and lose the battle."

In the last 24 hours Baja California registered 48 new cases and 13 more deaths, thus accumulating 45 thousand 134 confirmed cases and 7 thousand 768 unfortunate deaths.

"Today there were 48, but we are going to have more cases, we are going to pay the consequences of what happened last weekend. After two, three days we are starting to see that period of eight to 10 days where we are starting to have more confirmed cases; and we are seeing it in the consultations of fever clinics and respiratory modules", assured Perez Rico.

There are 282 active cases today, of which 135 are concentrated in Mexicali, 89 in Tijuana, 32 in Ensenada, 12 in San Quintin, eight in Rosarito and six in Tecate. San Felipe remains at zero.

According to the Secretary, of the 798 suspected cases, approximately 20% to 25% will test positive.
