The vaccination campaign in San Diego is about to begin the stage in which all citizens over the age of 16 will be able to get the vaccine: the official date, provided by health authorities, indicates that it will be this Thursday, April 15, when all County residents will be able to access the vaccination against the coronavirus.

The vaccines currently being administered are Pfizer, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson which have an effectiveness of 95%, 94% and 85% respectively. At the moment, young people under the age of 16 will not be able to acquire the vaccine because there are insufficient studies to indicate whether the vaccine is safe in this age group.

According to the County News Center San Diego has a total of 24.3% of its residents fully immunized and nearly 1.12 million residents have received at least one of the vaccines. This has resulted in fewer community outbreaks than in recent months.

Over the course of April 2-8, 19 community outbreaks were confirmed in daycare, preschool, restaurant and bar settings. Unfortunately, between the same dates, eight new deaths were recorded for a total of 3 thousand 600 deaths in the region.

So far, San Diego has a total of 273 thousand 202 registered cases of coronavirus, it is expected that with the vaccination campaign entering the next phase, the number of infections and deaths will begin a clear decrease.
