Consumer confidence index in Tijuana increases 25%.

The data was issued by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI).

According to the Secretariat of Municipal Economic Development (SEDETI), the consumer confidence index in the city of Tijuana and the metropolitan area that includes the municipalities of Tecate and Playas de Rosarito had an increase of 25% during the month of March of this year 2021.

The data issued by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI) is part of a monthly publication that measures at a national level the purchasing power of the average consumer and their financial health, which suffered a significant deterioration since the beginning of the pandemic.

The lowest point recorded according to this indicator was in April 2020 and from that point on, a recovery of confidence is observed, with a trend that continues to rise in the metropolitan city.

The perception of recovery of national economic confidence is 20 percent from March 2020 to March 2021; in the Metropolitan Zone of Tijuana it is 25 percent in the same period of time, which suggests that the economic dynamics are very different in the border region and that the recovery is occurring faster than in other areas of the country, which will undoubtedly be reflected in higher household consumption and a recovery of local businesses in the city.

This indicator was released according to the project conducted by the Baja California College of Economists, in conjunction with the School of Accounting and Administration of the Autonomous University of Baja California (UABC), whose results are based on a monthly survey with a sample of 400 households in the area.

In view of these results, it is expected that all sectors of the economy will continue to improve, respecting the prevention protocols issued by health authorities.

Despite the fact that Baja California is in yellow according to the epidemiological traffic light, it is important to continue implementing preventive measures to avoid an increase in the number of COVID-19 cases, along with the continuation of the vaccination program in our community.
