This past Monday Tijuana surpassed Mexicali in COVID-19 transmissions

What "scares" the Secretariat of Health is that the two largest cities have upward trends in this indicator.

According to the report presented yesterday morning by the head of the Secretariat of Health, Alonso Perez Rico, the Effective Reproduction Rate (ER) by COVID-19, only indicates that the State is losing the battle against the virus.

This after registering an ER of 1.21, which means that one person with COVID-19 can transmit the virus to two more people in the region.

At the municipal level, Tijuana reported the highest ER yesterday, which was 1.29, surpassing Mexicali where it was 1.24, and both with an upward trend, which is what "scares" the Secretariat of Health.

This is due to the fact that this increase only indicates the arrival of a third wave. "The new wave means: closures, restrictions, the traffic light change is coming (...) why? because transmission chains begin to be everywhere, hospitals will start to fill up in a couple of weeks and the scenario is that we will be back to square one. We can avoid this if we take care of ourselves," said the Secretary of Health.

He also commented that, according to what has been observed in other countries, the third wave will be stronger than the second.

On the other hand, the hospital occupancy rate for COVID-19 also continues to rise, registering 21.31% yesterday, when last Monday it was 9.98% (as of April 4) in Baja California.

The patients who woke up this Monday hospitalized due to coronavirus are 65, and 35 more were intubated.

On this point, Perez Rico said that "this is one of the last indicators that are beginning to rise. When this indicator starts to rise, it will not go down, why? because we already have active cases, we already have an increase in hospitalization, the ventilators continue, and then the patients who lose the battle".
