"Patria", the Mexican vaccine against COVID-19, will be ready by the end of 2021.

"Patria", the first Mexican vaccine against COVID-19, will be ready by the end of 2021, said the director of the National Council of Science and Technology (Conacyt), Maria Elena Alvarez-Buylla Roces.

The official commented that the recruitment of volunteers for the Phase 1 clinical trial has already begun and the first results are expected by the end of May. Between 90 and 100 healthy adults will participate in the preliminary tests.

The in vitro tests were effective in mice and pigs, previously there was an evaluation, analysis and design to guarantee the safety of the antidote.

Conacyt informed that the vaccine batches are already available for the trial and that Cofepris will approve its emergency use. It is estimated that by November or December of this year it will be approved for use in the general population.
