Change.org petition launched to reopen non-essential border crossings

This is another initiative to promote a reopening for non-essential travel.

For more than a year now, the daily lives of border residents have been disrupted due to the arrival of the coronavirus pandemic. Month after month we wait for the announcement that we will once again be able to travel to the United States.

For this reason, it is not surprising to find initiatives that promote a reopening for non-essential travel; among these actions are those of the San Ysidro Chamber of Commerce, which has been responsible for sending letters to the U.S. Ambassador and the U.S. government.

Also, today we found a petition on Change.org, this is addressed to the Constitutional President of the United Mexican States, Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, and was proposed by Marco Antonio Blasquez Salinas. In this petition he argues that with the application of the vaccines in the United States and Baja California, it would be a good time to consider this long awaited reopening.

“The progress in the application, together with other measures, allows the gradual lifting of restrictions. Therefore, I am convinced that the time has come when conditions are favorable to reestablish the movement of people”.

So far, 504 people have signed the petition and it was only made public a few days ago. There has been no response from Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, however, authorities on both sides of the border have previously stated that restrictions will be lifted when the border states turn to green.
