How many dollars worth of merchandise can you cross from Mexico to the U.S. without paying taxes?

This is the limit in dollars of items you can cross without declaring taxes

Do you constantly cross from Mexico to the United States? Is it your first time doing it? Regardless of the answer to these questions there is something very important you have to take into account if you will cross into the neighboring country, and that is that most of the items purchased in Mexico need to be declared, according to the official CBP website.

The following items are exempt from declaration and should not exceed $800: gifts and personal items, including one liter of alcoholic beverages per person over 21 years of age. Border Patrol emphasizes that cigars from Cuba are prohibited.

CBP reports that it has zero tolerance for any type of drugs, which could result in serious fines, vehicle impoundment, federal search or imprisonment. The following items are also prohibited: sea turtle boots or any other endangered species items (i.e. spotted cats, coral, crocodile, elephant, etc.).

Something important to note is that the vast majority of fruits are prohibited, these include oranges and apples, carrying them and not declaring them could result in fines ranging from $50 to $1,000 dollars.
