Burglaries have decreased in Tijuana, reports City Hall

Between March 2020 and 2021, the crime of home burglary alone reported a decrease of 29%

Based on the statistics presented by the State Attorney General's Office (FGE), during the past month of March, Tijuana registered a decrease in the crime of theft in any of its variants. The Secretary of Security is confident that the trend will also decrease for the month of April.

In this sense, the annual comparison between March 2020 and 2021, indicates that home burglary presented a decrease of 29 percent, vehicle burglary a reduction of 10 percent and commercial burglary a reduction of 5 percent. According to the population measurement, taking into account the accelerated growth of the city of one block per month, as well as the repatriation of people that has been continuous since the end of February with 100 per day on average, the crime rate has remained with a downward trend or contained, as in the case of homicides. These figures remain similar to those of March 2020.

It is worth mentioning that in this high impact crime, the Municipal Presidency, through the Secretariat of Security and Municipal Citizen Participation, has maintained an operational work focused on the arrest of alleged perpetrators, where priority is given to the immediate search for the offender or offenders, while working on specific objectives that address the causes of violence.

This has led to an increase in the number of arrests, many of them flagrante. Compared to January, when 11 individuals were arrested for attempted homicide, 25 were arrested for the same crime in April. Likewise, the restructuring of commands in the 14 police districts, as well as the operative implemented in each zone, has allowed a decrease in the incidence of crime in 12 of them.

For the Municipal Government it is very important to work hand in hand with the three levels of government so that the population can develop in safe environments, therefore, the work is mainly focused on prevention. We start from the premise: the greater the prevention, the greater the safety.

Therefore, the community is urged to generate a culture of reporting, through the emergency numbers 9-1-1 or 089 for anonymous reporting, while working from home with the promotion of family values and healthy coexistence.
