Tijuana ranks among Mexico's best municipalities

With a score of 77.7 on the PbR-SED 2021, Tijuana is positioned as one of the best municipalities nationwide

This Sunday it was announced that Tijuana has the fifth place nationally in the ranking of municipalities and mayors' offices. In addition to this, according to the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit (SHCP), the municipality obtained a score of 77.7 in the PbR-SED 2021 Diagnosis.

This result, achieved the increase of 2.50 points compared to the 2020 result on a scale of 1 to 100. It is worth noting that for approximately 10 years, Tijuana had been the only municipality selected in the entity; this year, Ensenada also appears in the ranking.

The fact that the municipality remains among the first places is due to the efforts that different administrations have made over the years focused on proper accountability. However, thanks to the correct executions of the municipal president, secretaries and directors of the different areas, the result has been an increase in the score of 77.70 in 2021.

The objective was met based on the requirements of Article 80, third paragraph of the General Law of Governmental Accounting (LGCG) and the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit (SHCP), responsible for delivering the annual report on the progress achieved by the Federal Entities, Municipalities and territorial divisions of Mexico City (DTCDMX) to the Chamber of Deputies of the Congress of the Union.

According to the Municipal Treasury, each municipality must be specific with its report submitted with the objective of delivering better public goods and services to the population, raising the quality of public spending and promoting proper accountability and thereby boosting national development.

The current government has carried out continuous improvement actions in comparison with the results and recommendations that, with previous years have given the guideline to give a punctual follow-up to the strengths, opportunities, weaknesses and threats to advance in the PbR-SED topic.

For the XVIII City Council of Tijuana, these results are reflected in the fifth place nationally, which places Tijuana among the best municipalities in the country, even above large cities such as Guadalajara, Monterrey or Mexico City.

Planning, Budgeting, Programming, Exercise and Control, Follow-up, Evaluation, Accountability and Consolidation, were the topics evaluated so that Tijuana also achieved the number five position at a national level among the best cities that raise the quality of public spending and a correct application of accountability.

In the eyes of the citizens, this result means that the municipality has worked constantly in an exercise of accountability, that is, it is committed to a culture of transparency, which not only implies that the community knows how taxes are spent, but also that there are visible results in terms of safety, mobility and welfare.
