Crossing the U.S.-Mexico border to get vaccinated is not an essential trip: CBP

They are looking to find a way to relax restrictions at the border as soon as possible

The border has had restrictions for international travelers since March 2020, for those who live on the border it can be a somewhat frustrating situation, as many used to travel to visit family, take a walk or go shopping.

Recently, Edgar Ramírez, U.S. Department of Homeland Security Attache, issued a statement informing that the U.S. is forced to extend the Border Restriction Agreement until at least June 21 of this year.

Ramírez explained that the U.S. government will continue to coordinate with the Mexican government to find the most effective way to relax the restrictions as soon as conditions permit.

He also noted that for the time being, all persons should avoid land border crossings unless the purpose is deemed essential. U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) clarified that crossing the border solely for COVID-19 vaccination does not meet the acceptable criteria.

They recall that the current situation still does not allow for shopping, sightseeing or visiting family members on the other side of the border.
