AMLO announces that vaccination will be intensified in border cities

This Thursday, the president announced that vaccination will be intensified in these states.

This Thursday, Mexico's President, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, informed that the United States would send one million Johnson & Johnson brand vaccines to expedite vaccination in the country, in the same statement he shared that he will intensify vaccination in some States.

The states he mentioned were Quintana Roo, Baja California Sur and all border cities including, of course, Tijuana. This intensification of vaccination will take place in the days following the elections that will take place this Sunday, June 6th.

This information may possibly bring hope to the citizens of the border, who are hoping that restrictions with the United States will be lifted or at least eased. In fact, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE) reported in May that Mexico and the United States are in conversations to relax border crossing restrictions as of June 22.

This will depend on the rates of spread of the coronavirus and the number of vaccines applied on both sides of the border. Regarding the above, the president celebrated that on June 2, the largest number of doses of vaccine against COVID-19 were applied in one day: one million 61 thousand 962 doses.

This is a record figure and we are very pleased to be able to announce it. (...) Why is the number of vaccinated people growing? Because brigades were expanded and also younger people are being vaccinated, from 40 to 49 and they can move around, this is not the case of the vaccination of older people who found it more difficult to go to the vaccination centers.
