COVID-19: active cases drop to 279 in Baja California

Mexicali records five days with downward trends, however, it will continue this under the yellow traffic light this week

Baja California went from having 326 active cases of COVID-19 to 279 this Monday, informed the head of the Secretariat of Health, Alonso Pérez Rico.

Although most of these cases are still concentrated in Mexicali, this municipality went from 206 to 167 from Sunday to Monday, while Tijuana decreased from 93 to 85 and San Felipe from two to one; Ensenada went from 17 to 18, and Rosarito continues with four, San Quintín with three and Tecate with one.

In turn, the State capital lowered its incidence of cases to 15.57, after five days with negative tendencies; but this indicator in this municipality continues to be the highest at state level, since in Tijuana it is 4.66, in Ensenada it is 3.82, in Rosarito 3.56 and in Tecate 0.85.

At this point, Pérez Rico confirmed that this week the entity will remain under the green traffic light, with the exception of Mexicali, which will be in yellow coloration. On the other hand, in the last 24 hours, 105 new cases of coronavirus were registered in the region, of which 94 were reported in Tijuana, six in Mexicali, four in Ensenada and one in Tecate.

In the last hours, 51 deaths were also unfortunately registered, however it was clarified that 50 of these correspond to 2020, but were added until now because first it had to be confirmed by the State Vaccination Committee, the Secretariat of Health and the Jurisdictional Committee of Epidemiological Surveillance, that if they passed away due to coronavirus in the Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS) of Baja California.

Thus, as of today, 49 thousand 548 cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed in the State, and 8 thousand 391 deaths have occurred. And due to the fact that the Effective Reproduction Rate (ER) is currently 1.07 statewide, but in Ensenada it is 1.57, the Secretary assured that in the next 14 days there will be an increase in the number of cases in the municipality, which is why he asked its residents to reinforce prevention measures.
