Municipal authorities and the National Guard evicted hundreds of people who had extended the El Chaparral migrant camp in front of the exclusive parking lot of the Tax Administration Service (SAT) this Saturday.

According to witnesses, the police arrived in a violent manner to demand their relocation, otherwise a machine would pass through the area to sweep away the tents. Not wanting any confrontation, the immigrants had no choice but to gather their belongings and move.

Men, women and children from Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras and southern Mexico complied with the order and left the street to request another space in the main camp under the El Chaparral bridge, very close to the San Ysidro border crossing.

It is estimated that there are currently 2 thousand people in migratory conditions living on the street, and recently the water was taken away and there is only one faucet left for personal use.

So far there is no solution for their request for humanitarian asylum in the United States, as they are fleeing violence, poverty and the pandemic.
