Through the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Marcelo Ebrard Casaubón, Mexico will begin the process to reopen the border with the United States, said President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.

"I have already instructed the Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Marcelo Ebrard, to look for the governor of California and take the necessary steps to open the border as soon as possible," he mentioned.

This after Baja California was able to vaccinate its population 18 years of age and older with the Johnson & Johnson vaccine provided by the neighboring country, with the objective of speeding up the lifting of restrictions at border crossings between both nations.

Obrador commented that now that he has complied and vaccinated the population of this State, he will try to convince the U.S. government that it is time for the border to be completely opened.

"We are going to talk to the governor of California, to President Biden and to Vice President Kamala Harris. We are going to talk to them to say: 'Baja California has already been vaccinated' and we are going to ask the governor of California, the president and the vice president to open the border," he added.
