On a day like today but in 2020, the first two cases of COVID-19 in the region were being confirmed in Baja California; they were two women, one 54 and the other 58 years old, both residents of Mexicali.
One year into the pandemic in the state, 44 thousand 251 people have been infected, of which 16 thousand 633 are from Mexicali, 16 thousand 154 from Tijuana, 6 thousand 642 from Ensenada, one thousand 889 from San Quintin, one thousand 376 from Tecate, 991 from Rosarito and 566 from San Felipe.
In addition, 7 thousand 587 people have lost their lives due to this disease, most of them in Tijuana where 3 thousand 372 deaths were registered, followed by Mexicali with 2 thousand 848 of the total, Ensenada with one thousand 053, Tecate with 189, San Quintin with 88, Rosarito with 28 and San Felipe with nine.
And although in the last 24 hours only three more deaths and 37 new cases were registered, the pandemic is not over yet, since there are still 282 active cases, 108 of them in Tijuana, 103 in Mexicali, 30 in Ensenada, 17 in Rosarito, 14 in San Quintin, six in Tecate and four in San Felipe.
In turn, according to what was presented this morning by the head of the Secretariat of Health, Alonso Perez Rico, the Effective Reproduction Rate (ER) in Baja California is 0.99, so being so close to one means that today one person with COVID-19 in the state can infect two more.
Despite the above, it is worth mentioning that so far in this health crisis 36 thousand and 71 Baja Californians have won the battle, 53% of them have been women.
