On Sunday April 8, 2013, seven workers from Mexican Beer Company "Grupo Modelo" died from intoxication while performing cleaning duties in a confined area of a factory in Mexico City.

"We are making the necessary investigations to determine the causes of the accident," said the manager of Grupo Modelo, Francisco Javier Lopez Bravo.

"We have confirmed that there are no risks to the community, the environment or staff members in the facility," added a company spokesman.

"Unfortunately, this process resulted in seven deaths," a company spokesman informed reporters at the gates of the factory where the incident occurred, located in the Miguel Hidalgo delegation in the northwest part of the Mexican capital.

The source explained that the families of the victims and the authorities were notified of the deaths, which seems to be the result of just a fatal industrial incident.

The company has not provided full details of what led to the death of workers but the Reforma newspaper, in its electronic version said that the cause of death may be for the buildup of carbon dioxide during the cleanup.

"The Modelo Brewery deeply regrets this incident and will support the family of those who were affected at all times," added Lopez Bravo.

Founded in 1925 Grupo Modelo is the leader in the production and export of beer in Mexico, and has 7 plants throughout the country where more than 71.5 million hectoliters (1.8 billion gallons) are produced annually.
