LA Galaxy vs Tijuana Xolos: An Inter-Californias Battle

Local yet international rivalry.

LOS ANGELES - Club Tijuana Xoloitzcuintles de Caliente set to restart their international competition journey in the CONCACAF Champion's League (CCL). After several months of inactivity in this competition, the Xolos will travel 130 miles north to face the LA Galaxy in the quarterfinal stage of the tournament.

It is a unique match-up unlike no other. It has all of the ingredients of another USA vs Mexico soccer rivalry, but has the added flavor of a local derby due to the proximity of the two clubs.

Following the Xolos 2-0 win over Chivas, Argentine striker Dario Benedetto mentioned that the game would give them confidence to face this stage of the CCL.

"Yeah, like you said I was able to find the net again and so did my teammate Jaimen (Ayovi.) And that helps us all to start thinking about the upcoming match on Wednesday."

In that match Ecuadorian forward Ayovi made his first start after recovering from an injury and marked the occasion with a goal. The Ecuadorian is now excited for the opportunity to keep participating with the team.

"First of all I am happy to be back after the injury" said Ayovi "I'm still missing that fitness level that comes from training day in day out. but I'm getting there."

Tijuana Xolos will want to go into Wednesday night's match and walk away with at least a draw if not a win. The away form for the Xoloitzcuinltes has been a real problem. But if the Xolos can get a positive result in LA then they increase their chances of advancing since they have a really strong home field advantage at the Estadio Caliente.

The match is scheduled for tomorrow Wednesday March 12 at 7:00pm local pacific time from the StubHub Center in Los Angeles.
