TIJUANA.- Tijuana Mayor Jorge Astiazaran headlined the traditional festivities to commemorate Tijuana's 125th birthday, by saying "It is with great pride that we come together to celebrate such an important date; we wanted to do something different that attracted everyone in Tijuana, because after all this event is offered for the enjoyment of those that were born here and those of us that consider ourselves Tijuana adoptees."

During the celebration, Mayor Astiazaran highlighted that during these 125 years, the residents of Tijuana have forged values that make this city exemplary, and reknown for its entrepreneurism and its commitment to innovation.

"In Tijuana there is a convergence of values from throughout Mexico that create a city where the best and most representative ideals of our country are reproduced, and form a mosaic that identifies us as a metropolis with open arms to those who arrive each day", said Mayor Astiazaran.

The event took place in downtown Tijuana, Parque Teniente Miguel Guerrero, which was remodeled for the occasion and as a gift to the city in light of the 125th birthday as part of an effort to create more spaces for recreation in the city for families.

The Downtown Children Orquestra of Musical Arts delighted the audience with some musical numbers, and traditional food tasting was offered along with mariachi. The event was very festive and everybody had fun.

Mayor Astiazaran, his wife, Elia de Astiazaran; Ricardo Fitch, President of the Association United for Tijuana (Unidos Por Tijuana), and their respective families were in charge of the traditional cake cutting, which was followed by a fireworks show.

Also in attendance were municipal authorities and other Representatives of the state and national governments, as well as leaders of civil associations, and social representatives for the city of Tijuana.
