Maria y Jose on San Diego debut

"San Diegans will think of me year round'' : Tony Gallardo

SAN DIEGO.- Ruidoson super star Maria y Jose makes his San Diego debut this  Thursday at U31 in North Park for #culturadura, a spectacular US tour showcasing Latin electronica and hip hop  put together by Remezcla and Mike's Harder. Remezcla recently launched a kick ass new website and are promoting artists from different Spanish speaking countries in various cities of the US. It is fitting that for the San Diego show they booked a artist whom lived, worked and hung out in San Diego/Tijuana but due to a expired visa, never played the city once his career as Maria y Jose started to engage audiences everywhere. It is a everyday tale of what us border people call ''Ya no tengo visa''. Now with visa in hand, Maria y Jose is ready to bring his act to San Diego for the first time EVER!

Gallardo jokes about being a 'perpetually emerging artist'' when I caught up with him on his last visit to Tijuana. Jokes aside, he is going places. He was jubilant about being able to tour the US and had played Chicago, New York City and Super Sonico, a Coachella(GoldenVoice) owned Latin festival in Los Angeles headlined by Cafe Tacuva and Calle 13. He moved from Tijuana to Monterrey, Mexico where he works as a dj/graphic designer w Nrmal, a leading promotional company that is held in highest regards by tastemakers all over. He is also now a father of a young boy, making him one of the coolest dads in the history of the dad game.  Gallardo has emerged and matured w Maria y  Jose, fatherhood and graphic design, a true renaissance man of the DIY internet era.

While shy and reserved in person, Tony Gallardo is an eminent showman on stage. He exudes confidence like a blood from a deep wound. His moods change like colors, from his tranquil sweet love songs that depict a tropical sense of neon and magenta, to his darker Tijuana dark days infused 3ball/rap songs about violence and exhibited on stage with dark ski masks. His social media rants and raves about  comedic self loathing then followed by uber confidence make me believe Gallardo has two personas in every aspect of his life, the shy, reserved, nerdy guy and the ultra confident rockstar with a commanding stage presence.

I asked him if he could say one thing to the people of San Diego what he would say '' I want San Diegans to think of me year round after watching me perform'' he said. The show is free and there will be complementary samples of Mikes Harder but you must RSVP. Join us and find out for yourself who Maria y Jose is, or are??
