Traces of Salted Water are Found in Mars

The Curiosity explorer detected the liquid

WORLD.- According to reports from space mission managers, the robotic explorer named Curiosity, sent by NASA to explore Mars surface, recently found traces of liquid salted water on the Red Planet.

The results of this new discovery were published on Nature Geoscience magazine, in an article written by Javier Martín-Torres from the Andalusian Earth Sciences Institute (AESI and the University of Granada) and Lulea's University of Technology (Sweden).

"This is the first time that evidence regarding liquid water on Mars is established," commented the investigator, however, he added that this environmental conditions only happen at night.

This is because the differences between night and day on Mars are extreme:

with up to 90 degrees of temperature difference and a relative humidity in the environment that varies from 100% at night to almost 0% throughout the day.

Now that traces of liquid water have been found, the environmental conditions of the planet prevent the creation of life as we know it.

"Nevertheless, the possibility of liquid water on Mars has enormous implications for the planet's habitability, its future exploration and geological processes related with water," explained Martín-Torres.

The Curiosity explorer, which cost NASA 2,500,000 dollars, landed on the Red Planet on August 2012 having as purpose exploring the planet's land and seek for any trace that indicates if there's even been life on Mars.
