"Viajero Confiable" Mexico's Trusted Traveler Program

Legal Foreign Residents of Mexico Excluded from Program

Mexico’s Trusted Traveler Program, "Programa Viajero Confiable", is a program similar to the U.S. Global Entry Program and Canada's NEXUS program and allows for expedited processing of travelers at immigration entry points. The program was first introduced in Mexico in 2014 and is currently in operation in Mexico City, San Jose del Cabo and Cancun with plans to expand to ten more airports in the near future.

The program is open to Mexican citizens and U.S. citizens who are members of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Global Entry program. However, it is not available to those who are temporary or permanent residents in Mexico, nor to those who have been authorized to engage in remunerated activities in Mexico.

The program costs $1372 pesos (approximately $90 US Dollars) and, if approved, is valid for five years. The application process is started online after which time a personal interview must be scheduled. At the interview, the immigration officer will take the applicant’s photograph, obtain biometric information including fingerprints and iris scans, and verify the information in the submitted documentation. Enrollees will be allowed to use kiosks located in the immigration entry area of the airports where they will scan their passport and fingerprints and complete the electronic immigration form. For foreigners, kiosks will provide the immigration form required to legally visit Mexico.
