Rosarito is undoubtedly one of the most visited tourist destinations in Baja California, offering the best of the coast with an ideal family-friendly atmosphere for a summer visit—not to mention its wide and diverse culinary scene.
While seafood is a local favorite in this municipality, those seeking an unparalleled Italian experience should visit Pasta y Basta.
Pasta y Basta: The Trattoria in Rosarito Serving Fresh Pasta Dishes
Pasta y Basta is a trattoria featuring a traditional Italian menu with the following offerings:
- Antipasti (appetizers)
- Primi (pasta or risotto)
- Secondi (meat or seafood)
- Dolci (dessert)
- …as well as an extensive selection of pizzas and calzones.
This wonderful establishment is led by Chef Christian Gritti, who was born and raised in Bergamo, Italy, a city nestled at the foot of the Italian Alps. Gritti trained at one of the country’s oldest culinary schools, San Pellegrino, and besides working in Michelin-starred restaurants, he also worked at the famous Italian restaurant Buona Forchetta in San Diego.
This traditional Italian space offers an unmatched experience, not only for its dishes but also for the kindness and warmth with which the waitstaff and team welcome every guest. The restaurant is located at Blvd. Popotla, kilometer 29, in Playas de Rosarito.

Fresh, Handmade Pasta Every Day
At Pasta y Basta, you’ll discover what it means to enjoy authentic Italian cuisine: fresh, handmade pasta and pizzas cooked in an oven imported from Europe, designed exclusively for this dish.
“You’ll definitely notice the difference in flavor between dry pasta, which you can buy at any supermarket, and the fresh pasta made at Pasta y Basta. Dry pasta only contains flour and water, while fresh pasta includes more ingredients (flour, egg, white wine, and salt), which undoubtedly gives it more flavor,” the restaurant claims.

Chef Gritti not only aims to bring all the flavors of his native Italy but also enjoys blending colors, flavors, and textures, creating unique dishes with an authentic taste.
Pasta y Basta honors and stays true to its Italian roots but also embraces Mexican culture and all the good things Baja California has to offer. The decorations inside the establishment reflect the artisan-inspired boulevard where it’s located, and the wines they serve come from an Italian supplier in Valle de Guadalupe, Villa Montefiori, alongside some imported directly from Italy.

Since 2015, just over a year after the chef moved from Italy to marry in Rosarito, Pasta y Basta has brought an unparalleled experience to all who visit, claiming to be the only authentic Northern Italian restaurant in Rosarito.
