As stated recently by the head of the Baja California Health Secretariat, Alonso Perez Rico, the state could change the color of the epidemiological traffic light for COVID-19 from red to orange, thanks to the downward trends that have been observed.
According to the Secretary, the number of active cases decreased from 915 to 784, as of Monday morning. This is due to the fact that all municipalities decreased their active cases.
Tijuana went from 381 to 318, Mexicali from 203 to 182, Ensenada from 208 to 178, San Quintin from 47 to 43, Rosarito from 37 to 33, Tecate from 21 to 15 and San Felipe from 18 to 15.
In addition, in the last 24 hours only 14 new cases and 10 new deaths due to coronavirus were registered in the region.
With these figures, Baja California accumulates 41 thousand 745 coronavirus infections and 6 thousand 910 deaths so far in the pandemic.
"This week we are going to analyze the activities that have been opened, the activities that are in each one of our municipalities, the incidence of municipalities, the permitted capacity, which activities are complying with the capacity and based on that we are going to make modifications, a plan to present it to the head of the executive branch so he can determine when the change will be made and which activities", commented Perez Rico, and added that between Wednesday and Thursday of this week the traffic light in which Baja California will be next week will be confirmed.
So far, hospital occupancy is 35.52% statewide and there are 611 beds and 200 ventilators available.
The head of this agency also took the opportunity to inform that several studies are being carried out in Europe, since it has been observed that the new SARS-CoV 2 strains detected are re-infecting people even if they are vaccinated, therefore he said, "the scenario that is foreseen is a third wave that will affect the world and what we want is to be as prepared and trained as possible, we will be very careful with this information that we are telling you. The scenario here is that we are not going to open everything, we are going to go step by step".
Currently Baja California is coming out of the second wave, which occurred during the winter season, however he said that, "if two mutations arrive, 60 mutations, if the vaccine arrives, we must continue to social distance ourselves".
