Adrian Garcia Marquez will become the official voice of the Lakers in Spanish. For the first time ever an NBA team has accepted that there games be broadcast in Spanish. Garcia Marquez the San Diego native journalist mentioned that it will be an honor to work along side superstars like Kobe Bryant, Pau Gasol, Steve Nash y Dwight Howard among others. It will be part of his job to travel with the team.
"It is a great honor to be part of this, it is the biggest privilege of my career. We are compromised with the Hispanic fan base in the USA. There is always someone to talk to about the Lakers in Spanish" said Garcia Marquez
Time Warner Cable, the home of sports in Spanish in the United States has there offices in Los Angeles. It was been a growing network, and will focus on the Hispanic community. Marquez spoke with us about how the fans have really helped this project take off.
"The fans are the direct reason for all of this. We felt we had more to give, since we are with the team in the hotels and airplanes. We present the Lakers which is a huge franchise worldwide" said Marquez
The Lakers' official broadcasts on Time Warner Cable Deportes will be available to those who have DircTV, Cox, AT&T Uverse, and Verizon Fios all across California and all the way to Las Vegas, Nevada. The San Diego commentator also spoke to us about what it's like to live among the Laker players.
"Being around the players so long you start to get to know them in a personal level, you forget that they are superstar athletes and you start to realize they are just human beings. For example, hanging out with Pau Gasol I found out he is a fan of "Game of Thrones"; I love "Game of Thrones so we talk about it all the time now."
And finally Marquez told us about the work ethic from Kobe Bryant who will be out of the courts for a few months due to injury. He tells us how Bryant stays in such great shape in spite being in the later stages of his career.
"I've seen a lot of great athletes and I've never seen one like Kobe Bryant. You have no idea how hard he works, and trains. He has great focus he'll sometimes go out for a walk at night to get some air, but he'll never go partying knows how important it is to rest. You see someone that could be doing whatever he feels like doing, but does what he needs to do. concluded Marquez
