Ambulante Border Series is a trail of continuous plays followed by panels organized by the Ambulante Itinerant Documentary Festival held for the first time this year and making its base of Tijuana from September 6 to 9.
Mexican actor Diego Luna is on the lead, the festival will tackle three of the most immediate topics affecting the bilateral relation between Mexico and its neighbors from Central and North America: gun traffic and control, freedom of expression and immigration.
"We are living a critical period after the Mexican presidential elections and before the US ones, so we think it's the perfect moment to open a gap that allows for an active participation from a public that has been directly and indirectly affected by the policies adopted," he stated.
During the Ford Foundation's 50th anniversary, Ambulante is joining efforts so that, through documentary films, an active debate spans over the border to form alliances that promote collaboration between projects.
"Through Ambulante the foundation is working two aspects, taking documentary films to places that don't have access to them and also using the documentaries' potential to give power back to vulnerable communities like "Ambulante Más Allá" (Ambulante Beyond), that consists in training indigenous women to help them document their own lives," said Mario Bronfman of the Ford Foundation.
