A call received by Argentine authorities set off an investigation on the possibility that Joaquín "El Chapo" Guzmán could be in the southern part of the country, a version that's been finally dismissed.

"It all started with a call and after that, protocols followed, on one side reinforcing the security systems, even if the intel has been ruled out or not. Intel was shared between the Federal Intelligence Agency (of Argentina) and the FBI, we traced the call, found out who made it and then enforce the law", explained Argentina's Secretary of Security, Sergio Berni to La Red radio show.

The information that was given out on a call, specified that the Mexican capo was located at the Argentinian border limits with Chile.

The search operation extended all the way down to the Patagonia, where they doubled the personnel. The Secretary of Security of Argentina assured that the Sinaloa Cartel leader wasn't in Chile either.
