The San Diego Museum of Art, located in Balboa Park, is continuing its centennial celebrations with the return of its annual Art Alive event, scheduled for April 23 through 26.

Now in its 2026 edition, the four-day event will transform the museum’s galleries with colorful floral interpretations of roughly 80 artworks from its permanent collection. Local San Diego designers are tasked with creating arrangements that invite visitors to compare shapes, figures, and colors alongside the original pieces.

This year’s Art Alive draws inspiration from the museum’s 100th anniversary and will feature the renowned collection of works by Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec.

The exhibition aims to capture the theatrical spirit of late 19th-century Paris, brought to life through the artist’s distinctive vision.

Beyond the visual spectacle, Art Alive serves as the museum’s most important annual fundraising event. Proceeds support exhibitions, education, outreach, and public programming.

A Series of Celebrations

In the weeks leading up to the main event, the museum is launching its signature “Petal Pop-Ups” campaign, large-scale floral installations that will appear at surprise locations across San Diego County every weekend leading up to Art Alive.

Once the main event begins, guests can enjoy a range of activities. The “Garden of Activities” will offer hands-on art projects led by museum educators, with all materials included in event admission.

The weekend kicks off in style with an elegant opening night dinner: a black-tie gala featuring a multi-course meal inside one of the museum’s galleries. Sponsors will receive full VIP access throughout the weekend.

Later that evening, the “Bloom Bash” will welcome guests aged 21 and older for a night of artisanal food, craft cocktails from local vendors, live performances, and music. Attendees will also have a limited-time opportunity to view the full Art Alive floral exhibition.

Guests will also have the chance to meet Kelsea Olivia, the designer of the 2026 Art Alive rotunda, which is expected to serve as a centerpiece of this year’s event.
