San Diego is gearing up to welcome readers of all ages to the first-ever KPBS Book Festival. The event will take place on Saturday, August 23, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., at the University of San Diego campus. This inaugural festival will bring together award-winning authors, independent publishers, local bookstores, and literature enthusiasts, all in a space designed for sharing stories, ideas, and experiences.
One of the most anticipated moments of the day will be the official announcement of the 2025 One Book, One San Diego selections, along with a series of interactive panels featuring over 40 renowned authors, who will offer book signings and talks on a variety of topics.
There will also be special programming for young readers, including a youth reading stage, hands-on activities, and appearances by beloved PBS Kids characters like Clifford the Big Red Dog, Curious George, and The Cat in the Hat.
The festival will also feature:
- Poetry readings
- Bilingual programming
- Live music and entertainment
- Literary exhibitors and independent publishers
- Food trucks with options for every taste

Featured Authors at KPBS Book Festival
One of the guest authors will be María Dolores Águila, who will present her novel Barrio Rising, a work of historical fiction depicting the community activism behind San Diego’s iconic Chicano Park, a symbol of resistance and artistic expression for the Mexican-American community.
