The government of Tijuana, under Mayor Ismael Burgueño Ruiz, has ordered the closure of a public bathroom establishment in Playas de Tijuana after discovering an illegal sewage leak and the absence of required permits. This action was carried out through the Directorate of Inspection and Verification.
José Antonio Olivas Heredia, who leads the Directorate of Inspection and Verification, explained that the closure followed an environmental complaint concerning sewage spilling onto the Playas de Tijuana boardwalk. The issue was addressed collaboratively with environmental inspectors who assisted in investigating the situation.

“We acted responsibly by closing a facility that lacked proper regulatory authorization and posed clear environmental and public health risks. Mayor Burgueño’s instruction was clear: protect the health of our citizens and preserve the environment by strictly enforcing the law without exceptions,” said Olivas Heredia.
During the inspection, specialists identified visible leakage of sewage from a pipe descending from the facility. The discharge flowed toward the beach, directly impacting the surrounding environment and ecosystem.

Upon entering the premises, officials spoke with the manager, who admitted the establishment did not have a septic system nor any connection to the municipal sewage network. Furthermore, the facility lacked environmental permits and the necessary operating authorizations. Consequently, the government proceeded with its immediate closure.

Through these decisive measures, the local government reaffirms its commitment to act firmly against any threats to the health of Tijuana residents and the integrity of the environment.
