Baja California Sur governor Carlos Mendoza Davis, sent a bill to the state legislature, in which they propose to charge a new tax for foreign tourists to use public facilities and services. The tax will be of $16.50 dlls. per person.
Deputy Alfredo Zamora, president of the Commission for Constitutional and Justice Issues, said that the tax would be collected through tour providers and travel companies in the state. This money would go to public safety, health, education and tourism infrastructure.
For his part, businessman Eduardo Sánchez, president of Grupo Questro, considered that the new tax should be analyzed in depth, to avoid a decrease in the influx of foreign tourists, since anyone who arrives in the state already pays 16% tax, 10% per service, and 3% in lodging.
In addition, he said that Republican Donald Trump's victory in the US presidential election must be taken into account, so that the new U.S. government does not think it is a measure against its citizens, as some sort of retaliation for the stance that the Republican has towards the Mexican immigrants.
