Baja California Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda oversaw a change-of-command ceremony this week that brought new leadership to two major federal security forces operating in the state.

David Morales Hernández was sworn in as the new state coordinator of the National Guard in Baja California, while Brigadier General Daniel Gallegos Acevedo took over command of the 2nd Military Zone.

The governor said the appointments reflect ongoing cooperation between her administration and federal military authorities as the state continues to address security challenges.

“We will keep working closely with the Secretary of National Defense to strengthen security, prevent crime, and provide peace of mind for Baja California families,” she said.

As National Guard coordinator, Morales will be in charge of operational and community outreach efforts across the state’s municipalities.

The governor expressed confidence in the new commanders, pointing to their military experience and leadership backgrounds, and thanked the outgoing officials for their service.

She said state and federal authorities will continue working together on a strategy that combines crime prevention with efforts to address the underlying causes of violence in Baja California.
