Baja California Chosen for New Electricity Generation Framework

The San Simón and Solitario projects will now form part of the new national electricity mixed-generation framework.

Baja California is strengthening its strategic role in the country’s energy transformation after the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) selected the San Simón and Solitario projects as part of the first national project for its new mixed electricity generation framework, Governor Marina del Pilar Avila Olmeda announced.

According to the governor, their selection positions Baja California as a national benchmark for renewable energy infrastructure and sustainable development. The projects are among just 37 awarded nationwide, chosen from more than 200 proposals evaluated by the CFE.

The governor noted that the inclusion of San Simón and Solitario reflects growing confidence in the state’s potential to attract strategic investment, boosting competitiveness, creating jobs, and improving the well-being of local families.

She added that these efforts align with the vision of the Fourth Transformation promoted by President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, which prioritizes energy sovereignty, economic growth, and environmentally responsible development.

The governor also underscored her administration’s long-term commitment to leveraging the state’s competitive advantages including its geographic location, infrastructure, and natural resources to drive strategic projects that further position Baja California as a leading hub for innovation and sustainability in Mexico.

Kurt Honold Morales, the state’s Secretary of Economy and Innovation, stated that the selection of the two projects bolsters national energy security and reaffirms Baja California as a reliable destination for high-value investment and regional economic development.

Lastly, Governor Marina del Pilar reiterated that her government will continue working closely with the government of Mexico to advance strategic initiatives that generate broad-based well-being, attract new investment, and cement Baja California’s status as a national leader in clean energy and innovation.
