Baja California Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda announced a 34-million-peso investment to support wheat producers in the Mexicali Valley and help improve the grain’s market price.
The news came during a meeting in the state capital, where farmers, industry leaders, and state officials gathered to align efforts on fair pricing and protect wheat producers from adverse international market conditions that could negatively impact business.

“This agreement not only improves farmers’ incomes but also strengthens the industry’s competitiveness and recognizes the dedication of those who work the land every day,” the governor said.
Governor Ávila Olmeda also stressed that the era when the agricultural industry was ignored and sidelined by past governments—prioritizing their own interests over people’s well-being—has come to an end.

Horacio Gómez Carranza, President of the Baja California Wheat Producers’ Council, assured that the state’s contribution will help establish the price farmers have been seeking for this cycle—a significant step achieved through collaboration and the governor’s clear commitment.
“We thank Governor Marina del Pilar and the proper authorities for their attention. We are very grateful because our concerns have been heard,” Francisca Ramos, a wheat farmer from Colonia Borques, stated.

Baja California’s Secretary General Alfredo Álvarez Cárdenas highlighted that state authorities have supported the process from the beginning, in line with the governor’s commitment to boosting local producers.
