Baja California Named Best Gastronomic Destination at Food and Travel 2025 Reader Awards

The event, which this year took place in Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, recognizes the best in gastronomy and tourism.

Baja California has once again proven its culinary excellence, taking home the title of Best Gastronomic Destination at the Food and Travel 2025 Reader Awards.

The awards ceremony took place on Thursday, March 26, in Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, marking the first time the beloved Mexican destination has served as the event’s host.

The recognition was determined through a collaborative effort between the Editorial Board of Food and Travel México and 48 industry specialists in hospitality, who selected nominees across 32 categories.

A public voting period followed, running from October 2025 through January 30, 2026. The awards celebrate outstanding achievements in tourism and cuisine, as recognized by diners from both Mexico and abroad.

In addition to Baja California’s win as Best Gastronomic Destination, several of the region’s restaurants and culinary talents were also honored.

Among the nominees from Baja California were Chef Sheyla Alvarado of Lunario, recognized in the Best Chef category, and Ensenada’s Villa Torél, which was nominated for Best Restaurant in Inner Mexico.
