Baja California, one of Mexico’s healthiest medical tourism destinations

Increased life expectancy, especially in first world countries, has generated an increase in health and medical care services. In the coming years, it is expected that medical tourism will become a billion dollar industry. Millions of patients around the world will seek quality and low price globally, not just where they live.



In our country, health-related tourism services have already had an important development. According to the INEGI (Mexico's statistical and geographical census bureau), the economic impact in Mexico generated by health tourism in 2010 was more than $10 billion pesos ($75 million USD). During winter 2012-2013 in Baja California, health related visits were the second reason international visitors entered the state. This means that 15% of the international visitors during this period traveled for this motive, this represents 840,000 tourists.
