Baja California continues this week to be red-lighted by COVID-19, and it appears that the restrictions have brought about a small decrease in active cases in the region.

According to Health Secretary Alonso Pérez Rico, as of Monday the active cases totaled 772, with a decrease observed in all municipalities and only San Felipe remaining with the same cases (22).

The rest of the municipalities are as follows: Mexicali 344, Tijuana 221, Ensenada 96, San Quintín 43, Tecate 27, and Rosarito 19.

The secretary also commented that yesterday, Sunday December 27, six people died from coronavirus and two more died two days ago, according to the presentation six of these eight deaths occurred in Tijuana and the other two in Mexicali.

Of the 178 new cases registered in the state, 64 were in Mexicali, 51 in Tijuana, 41 in Ensenada, 10 in Tecate, 10 in Rosarito, one in San Quintín and one in San Felipe.

Thus, the accumulated positive cases are so far 32 thousand 196: 13 thousand 664 in Mexicali, 10 thousand 606 in Tijuana, 4 thousand 627 in Ensenada, one thousand 177 in San Quintín, one thousand and 81 in Tecate, 629 in Rosarito and 412 in San Felipe.

Regarding the 5 thousand 229 deaths by COVID-19, 2 thousand 266 were witnessed in Tijuana, 2 thousand 119 in Mexicali, 632 in Ensenada, 131 in Tecate, 56 in San Quintín, 20 in Rosarito and five in San Felipe.

On the other hand, in the last few days the number of intubated Baja Californians has also decreased, which today totals 199, however, authorities hope that this number will not increase in the next few days as a result of the Christmas gatherings.

"Two days with a downward trend in intubated patients, that's good news, we think we've reached the apex. We don't want another apex because of the meetings that took place on December 24th, and in this sense we must be very clear, to all the people who had their gatherings that had big conglomerations of people at home, we will see each other at the hospital in 10 to 14 days," commented Dr. Pérez Rico.

At the same time, as December 31 approaches, the date in which citizens normally meet to celebrate the arrival of the New Year, the Secretary of Health asked in a concise way not to meet and to avoid conglomerations. "The person who does that, at this moment is being totally irresponsible," he said.
