Independent Congresswoman Triny Vaca, proposed Baja California authorities to consider and manage to include dentists, dental assistants and dental assistants in the second stage of vaccination against SARS-COV 2, due to the high risk of infection of COVID-19 they face since they have direct contact with the mouth, the main transmitter of infection.
The legislator emphasized that the dentistry profession has been indicated by the Secretariat of Health and Labor and Social Welfare (STPS) and the Federal Secretariat of Health as being at "very high risk" of infection; she also pointed out the large number of dentists working in the state, taking as an example the town of Los Algodones, where there are 260 dental offices with more than 500 dentists.
Vaca Chacón pointed out that dental health professionals attend to local citizens and tourists, thus contributing a large amount of economic revenue, representing a significant number of specialists dedicated to the care of the population, with a working presence in all the municipalities of the region, which further increases the risk of infection.
Likewise, in her explanatory statement, Triny Vaca indicated that, in the Guiding Document of the National Vaccination Policy, the second stage of application will be from February to April 2021 and will include the rest of the health personnel who have not been vaccinated, but dentists are not considered within the subgroups of health workers.
That is why she showed her concern about this reality by presenting her exhortation, which was approved by majority during the virtual ordinary session held by the XXIII Legislature of the State Congress.
