Baja California has earned a recognition by Shaya Mujeres Viajeras for its concrete actions to make tourism more inclusive, safe, and gender-sensitive.

This honor follows the consolidation of a strategic alliance between Baja California and Shaya Mujeres Viajeras, aimed at building a work agenda that strengthens tourism through a gender lens. The announcement came during the 50th edition of Tianguis Turístico, one of the most important gatherings in the industry, held this year in Acapulco, Guerrero.

According to Miguel Ángel Badiola Montaño, Baja California’s Secretary of Tourism, the implementation of these strategies is already positioning the state as a leader in creating high-quality travel experiences for women. A coordinated task led by Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda, who has made inclusion and quality service a priority at every level.

The initiative is built on a clear vision: women travelers represent a growing sector, and they deserve to be welcomed under new, higher standards. The program advocates for public policies that benefit the regional, national, and international tourism industry, and puts a special focus on women’s empowerment, self-care, and community connection.

At the Tianguis Turístico platform, Secretary Badiola reaffirmed Baja California’s commitment to bringing together all players in the industry to move toward a more equitable and sustainable tourism model.

Meanwhile, Shaya Mujeres Viajeras also celebrated that the Las Rocas Resort & Spa has become the first Baja California tour operator to actively seek specific training and education actions for its male and female staff.

This is a call not just to local organizations, but to companies nationwide, according to Badiola, given that tourism is constantly evolving, and operators must adapt to global trends.

The 2026 Tianguis Turístico is still ongoing in Guerrero. Baja California’s pavilion at Expo Mundo Imperial remains busy with a packed agenda of business meetings expected to deliver short-term benefits for the entire tourism value chain.

An Extended Commitment in Baja California

It is worth noting that the alliance between Badiola Montaño and Shaya Mujeres Viajeras is part of an ongoing commitment that began last March, when the Government of Baja California signed a formal agreement with the organization.

Baja California stands out as the first state to focus on training tourism sector workers—men and women alike—to better understand and respond to the needs of digital nomads, young women traveling alone, and female travelers who come to enjoy everything the region has to offer.

What Is Shaya Mujeres Viajeras?

Shaya Mujeres Viajeras is a program built on the “Shaya Woman Committed” methodology. Its mission is to act as a bridge between the public and private sectors, weaving a gender perspective into every aspect of tourism management.

The goal is to prepare destinations and organizations to welcome women travelers in environments that are safe, well-informed and welcoming. According to the organization itself, this approach makes tourism stronger, more inclusive, and more coherent.

The group’s work agenda has already expanded to include raising awareness and dialogue with Mexico’s Secretariat of Tourism, as well as collaboration with various states including Baja California, which has redoubled its tourism efforts to reach shared goals.

Paola Rojas Visits Baja California’s Pavilion

On Wednesday, April 29, the Baja California Secretariat of Tourism welcomed renowned journalist Paola Rojas for an interview at its pavilion.

The visit took place as the state continues to promote its rich cultural offerings during the third day of Tianguis Turístico.

Promotion efforts are being led by tour operators, DMCs, the Hotel and Motel Association, and local Tourism Committees all under the direction of Secretary Miguel Ángel Badiola Montaño.

In a noteworthy collaboration with the Autonomous University of Baja California (UABC), five students from the Faculty of Tourism and Marketing in Tourism Management are serving as facilitators in the state’s pavilion, gaining real-world experience while helping showcase everything Baja California has to offer.
