Baja California’s Secretariat of Tourism has officially launched a major update to Baja Health Tourism, its primary health and wellness tourism portal. The platform now features the integration of the State Health Registry, a comprehensive directory featuring healthcare professionals and facilities certified by state health authorities.

Secretary of Tourism Miguel Ángel Badiola Montaño emphasized that accredited providers spanning five municipalities carry the official endorsement of the State Commission for Protection Against Sanitary Risks of Baja California (COEPRIS). This backing underscores the high standard and diverse scope of medical care available throughout the region.

“Health tourism is a vital economic pillar for Baja California. Beyond drawing millions of visitors each year and stimulating the value chain, this sector has driven the growth of a cutting-edge, world-class medical infrastructure and positions Baja California as a national and international leader,” Badiola Montaño said.

Accessible via www.bajahealthtourism.com, the updated platform streamlines the user experience by categorizing offerings into five main sectors: Hospitals and Clinics; Pharmacies; Diagnostic Laboratories; Health Professionals; and Specialties.

The new platform enhancements include provider listings with official photos and digital credentials that visitors can instantly verify using QR codes, a smart search engine, and the Wellness Route, with an interactive map feature that allows travelers to create custom itineraries.

Complementing medical services, the Wellness Route highlights curated tours and scenic points of interest designed to promote rest, connection with nature, and outdoor recreation in Baja California.

Integrated mapping tools also help users easily locate hotels, spas, restaurants, and local wineries, allowing visitors to experience the region’s renowned hospitality alongside their health treatments.

Badiola Montaño noted that the Secretariat of Tourism has actively promoted these initiatives at key national and international expos, including Ventana a México, Tianguis Turístico, and IBTM Américas. These efforts aim to connect global travel buyers and industry leaders with the region’s unique offerings, fostering new commercial partnerships.

He also stressed the importance of close collaboration between healthcare providers, tour operators, hoteliers, spa directors, and local guides under a unified concept of shared well-being to generate lasting economic growth for local communities.

About Health and Wellness Tourism

Health and wellness tourism is a massive economic driver for Baja California, attracting at least 2.8 million visitors annually seeking specialized care across 40 distinct medical disciplines.

To maintain rigorous safety standards, Baja Health Tourism requires 100% of listed professionals and facilities to hold active COEPRIS verification alongside appropriate state and national tourism credentials.

The updated directory incorporates providers verified through local self-regulation initiatives (REPSSABI and PASE), with top-tier facilities also achieving recognition in the National Tourism Registry (RNT), the State Tourism Registry (RET), and the Baja California Tourism Secretariat’s Catalog of Excellence.
