Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda participated in the National Meeting on Supply Chains for the Medical Device Industry, where Baja California has once again proven it is the undisputed leader of Mexico’s medical device industry, now accounting for more than 70% of the nation’s total exports in the sector.

The event, organized by the Baja California Medical Device Cluster, served as a vital hub for connecting manufacturing giants, local suppliers, government officials, and industry associations.

“It is a source of pride that our state is the state with the highest production of medical devices nationally and, above all, that they are produced in Tijuana, in Baja California,” Governor Marina del Pilar said.

The governor highlighted the sector’s massive economic footprint, noting that approximately one hundred medical device facilities operate within the state. These plants generate over 100,000 direct jobs and sustain countless indirect positions, supporting tens of thousands of families across Baja California.

“We are the engine that drives more than 70% of the national exports of this sector that leave our state, positioning us as a powerhouse on the global map,” the governor stated.

The event provided a strategic platform for networking and direct dialogue, allowing participants to align technical specifications, discuss regulatory standards, and identify new opportunities for collaboration and development.

Vidal Llerenas Morales, Undersecretary of Industry and Commerce for Mexico’s Secretariat of Economy, underscored a significant competitive advantage for Mexican manufacturers.

“80% of our most exported products face no tariffs when entering the United States,” he explained. “This unique position, shared only with Canada, gives us superior conditions for exporting to the U.S. market.”

Governor Marina del Pilar concluded that forums like this are essential for fostering real business opportunities and building a more robust, internationally competitive supply chain.
