BAJA CALIFORNIA.- The National Action Party (PAN) was the main winner during the yesterday's midterm federal elections, which in Baja meant choosing new representatives for each of the State's eight congressional districts. According to the National Electoral Institute (INE), which presented data through the Preliminary Electoral Result Program (PREP) the white and blue party's victory in all the eight districts of the state was more than clear by night's end.
Former Mayor of Tijuana, Jorge Ramos in the 4th, José Máximo García in the 5th; candidate for Federal Deputy, Maria Luisa Sánchez in the 6th; María del Rosario Rodríguez in the 7th and boxer Jackie Nava in the 8th, were the virtual winners.
In Baja, the Morena party, founded by two-time presidential candidate Andrés Manuel López Obrador, received a surprisingly large number of votes, surpassing the votes from his former party, the Democratic Revolution Party (PRD) and Mexico's Green Party (PVEM).
In the end, Morena turned out to be the party with the third most amount of votes in the state receiving 12.80% of the votes, while the PAN received a total of 28.81% and the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PAN) was left with 17.76%, far below the previous midterm in 2009.
