Baja California, known as the Capital of Mexican Wine, has gained worldwide recognition by taking first place in the Wine Guides category at the 2025 Gourmand Awards held in Portugal. This prestigious honor was given to Vinitácora: Vinos y Vinícolas de Baja California, an independent publication that highlights the region’s rich winemaking heritage.
Vinitácora is an extensive resource packed with details on more than 80 wineries, 900 labels, and the seven valleys that make up Baja California’s renowned wine route. Beyond serving as a reference, it is also a practical tool for planning wine tours and keeping track of tasting experiences.
Miguel Aguíñiga Rodríguez, Baja California’s Minister of Tourism, praised the achievements of authors Lorena Hernández and Fabián Jáuregui, and thanked them for giving the world a taste of the region’s finest.

“This award confirms the international prestige of our region as a leader in Mexican wine production and recognizes the dedication of those who proudly promote our winemaking identity,” Aguíñiga emphasized.
Selected from among submissions representing over 60 countries, the guide was recognized for its editorial quality, design, and its thorough approach to promoting Mexican wine, further establishing Baja California as a national and global reference in the industry.
The Baja California Department of Tourism remains dedicated to showcasing the state as a top wine destination and to supporting everyone who contributes to the region’s winemaking industry.
