With hotel occupancy up a 90% from two weeks ago, according to the State Secretary of Tourism, Óscar Jesús Escobedo Carignan, this weekend was very beneficial for tourism in Baja.

"Following our policies of promoting Baja, here at SECTURE we have focused on showing the great tourism the region has to offer, alongside the members of the sector; this weekend was a great example of its extraordinary results," he mentioned.

Escobedo pointed out that the diversity of the scheduled events alongside the perfect weather registered over the weekend, were important components for the influx of tourism that was seen over the past few days.

Events such as 'Baja Bike Race' in Tecate and Ensenada, gathered up 1,500 professional cyclists; the culinary and music fest "All My friends" in Rosarito welcomed over 5,000 attendees from Friday to Sunday; the culinary and cultural fest of 'CocinArte 2015'; as well as several tournaments celebrating 'International Surfing Day', generating an important presence of American tourists in the region.

"Ensenada and Tecate registered over 85% of hotel occupancy on Saturday, while Rosarito had 90% of their rooms booked; mainly by foreign visitors, which allows us to glimpse upon an excellent 4th of July weekend."

Ruta del Vino registered almost a 100% occupancy, with wine houses and restaurants completely full, specially on Sunday due to Father's Day celebrations.

He also mentioned that starting Saturday morning there was a lot of vehicle movement along the toll booths, specially the one located in Playas de Tijuana, Rosarito and Ensenada; likewise, beaches were crowded with local and foreign tourists.

Lastly, SECTURE's director mentioned that keeping up with the summer trend, which officially started on June 21st, the upcoming events may break influx records of the last 8 years.
