He respects Mexico's decision about the Tijuana-San Diego border.

About the Mexican Government closing the crossing border known as Puerta México next October, he explained that, even if that's not what it was agreed to in the beginning, he respects the "change of plans".

"We are living a situation where Mexico is telling us to hurry up with our part of the deal" he said.

Bersin remarked the fact that his peers from south of the border already have the infrastructure needed to start operations this fall, but he admitted the US does not have the necessary resources to launch the construction of access roads that would connect the freeway with the entry port of El Chaparral.

"We have to adapt to the circumstances, but we cannot build the required access right now".

It is estimated that 35 thousand vehicles pass through the area on a daily basis.

The biggest concern after announcing the possibility of closing Puerta México is that it could result in a higher concentration of traffic in the area, which would in turn mean longer waiting times to get into Mexican territory thus upsetting the daily routine of thousands of people from the border community who cross regularly.
