The sights, sounds, and flavors of Oaxaca will soon take over downtown Tijuana as the city prepares to host the Binational Guelaguetza Festival 2025. The three-day celebration, organized by the Tijuana Mayor Ismael Burgueño’s administration in partnership with the Government of Oaxaca, will bring indigenous culture and tradition to Avenida Revolución.
Running from August 29 to 31 between Sexta and Séptima streets, the festival will feature more than 150 Oaxacan artists. Visitors can expect folk dance, live music, regional cuisine, and artisan crafts that highlight the state’s cultural heritage.

“This government is supporting indigenous communities because Tijuana is a multicultural city, and this festival is proof of that,” said Ofelia Hernández Juárez, Director of Attention to Indigenous Peoples. “We invite Tijuana families, migrant communities, and Oaxacan natives to join in the celebration.”
The official opening is scheduled for Saturday, August 30, at 5 p.m., with municipal officials and representatives from Oaxaca in attendance. The day’s highlight will be a megacalenda (a traditional parade filled with music and dance) marching from Calle Primera to Cuarta.

Patricio Azamar, representative of the Familias Aconsejadas Civil Association and one of the organizers, stressed that the event is as much about community and economy as culture.
“The Guelaguetza is more than a festival. It unites communities, preserves traditions, and strengthens tourism. And it’s free for everyone.”
The Binational Guelaguetza Festival 2025 is being coordinated through Tijuana’s Department of Economic Development, the Department of Cultures and Arts of the Government of Oaxaca, and the Familias Aconsejadas Civil Association.
