“Border crossing restrictions cannot be reduced”: DHS

As reported on this website, restrictions on only essential activities at U.S.-Mexico border crossings were extended until February 21, 2021.

Due to this, Edgar Ramírez, attaché of the Department of Homeland Security in the U.S. Embassy in Mexico sent a message to the population of both countries where he mentions that it is clear that the increase in cases due to COVID-19 and that a possible new strain is causing more infections.

As a consequence, "it is not possible to reduce the restrictions on border crossings," said Ramírez, who reiterated, "a global pandemic is not the time to go shopping, to take a walk or to visit family on the other side of the border.

In addition, with the possible arrival of a migrant caravan from Honduras, the DHS attaché said that illegal migration or caravanning will only worsen the infection situation.
